Some people seem to think that vegans are constantly hungry because “all they eat is rabbit food.” However, most plant-based foods are quite filling including potatoes & bananas. These foods keep you full and energized for quite a while. Vegans pick their foods wisely—they’re not walking around starving!
Vegan Food Is Boring
Vegan cooking is as exciting as you make it and isn’t simply lettuce & tomatoes. In fact, there are so many interesting flavors to try, including spicy Indian dishes and creamy pasta made with nut-based sauces. Vegan food is anything but boring. The only limit is your creativity in the kitchen.
Vegan Diets Are Automatically Healthy
Just because something’s vegan doesn’t automatically make it healthy as there’s a lot of vegan junk food, like French fries and Vegan chicken nuggets. Even though they don’t have animal products in them, they’re often loaded with sugar and fats. Eating healthy as a vegan involves choosing more whole foods & fewer processed ones—just like a meat-based diet.
You Need Dairy for Strong Bones
Thanks to the milk industry, many people believe you need to drink milk to get calcium for strong bones. It’s false on two accounts. Plenty of vegan foods have lots of calcium such as kale & fortified plant milks. Plus, some studies have shown that dairy milk can actually cause problems for your bone health.
Veganism Causes Nutrient Deficiencies
Yes, vegans have to be smart about getting certain nutrients like B12 & iron—but they’re not automatically going to be deficient. Manufacturers have designed plenty of foods and supplements with vegans in mind to help with their nutrition. As such, maintaining a balanced vegan diet is perfectly doable.
All Vegans Are Environmentalists
While it’s true that being vegan can lower your environmental footprint, not everyone who goes vegan does it for the planet. Some people choose this lifestyle for their health while others do it for ethical reasons. Plus, some people simply don’t like the taste of meat—there’s not one reason for being vegan!
Veganism Is Too Hard to Maintain
Trying veganism seems rather daunting at first, especially when you’re dining out and attending social events. However, it’s actually easier than ever. Many restaurants have vegan options (or are happy to make adjustments), and most grocery stores stock vegan products. Living vegan is more convenient than you might think.
