Dysfunctional families conceal secrets out of shame and stigma. They could cover up problems such as drug abuse, financial struggles or violence. Lies become common – members learn to avoid the truth. This secrecy builds distrust. It becomes more difficult to be truthful or work things out.
Unrealistic Expectations
In a dysfunctional family, people often expect perfection. Parents could push their kids to be best at everything regardless of their talents or interests. Members feel like losers if they aren’t living up to these expectations. It imposes pressure and prevents people from feeling valued for themselves.
