How do I get the marriage behind all those Instagram posts & adorable couples? I mean I’m going to be real—marriage is fantastic, but some things that no one says to watch out for make your head spin. And then there are these little annoying things – the small issues that wear you down over time. Here are 10 annoying marriage secrets nobody talks about—perhaps you’ll start nodding along.

Never Having the Bed to Yourself
I used to think bed-sharing was cozy but now? Not so much. Between stolen blankets, elbows in the face & chainsaw snoring, I sometimes wish that I could lie down & not be pushed off the edge. And don’t even get me started on fighting over the right pillow — it’s no romantic pillow fight.
The Chore Tug-of-War
Marriage turns chores into a constant back-and-forth. Who’s washing the dishes? Who forgot to empty the garbage — again? There is no end to it. And if you’re the one doing more, that quiet resentment starts creeping in. But if you bring it up? Oh, it’s suddenly your fault for keeping track.
Your In-Laws Are Now Your Problem
When you say “I do” to someone, you don’t only say “yes” to the other person – you say “yes” to their entire family. That means you’ll have to live with in-laws who call just too often or family members who feel like they can show up late. And you’ve probably signed up for another family’s holiday drama you didn’t ask for, every now & then.
Different Ideas About Money
I didn’t realize how stressful money could be until I got married. One of you may love to go overboard with a new gadget – while the other would rather save every cent. You might even end up tucking away purchases to stay out of the conversation. Spending together is an entirely new realm of compromise & frustration.
Your Alone Time Disappears
I like spending time with my husband but every now and then I just want to watch my favorite TV show alone — or just relax & not get interrupted. Solo time is an expensive commodity in marriage & even if you do manage it, the guilt creeps in, like you’re somehow wrong for wanting to be alone.
Fighting Over the Thermostat
If I want the room warm, you can bet my partner wants it freezing. It’s always a back-and-forth, one of us sneaking to set the temperature when the other isn’t around. Seriously, the thermostat is now like the third man in our relationship. Why can’t we just settle on one number?
The Same Arguments, Again & Again
Every couple has “that” argument — you know, the one you’ve had a million times. It might be about how they leave their socks on the floor or how they stack dishes wrong in the dishwasher. It is not so much the problem anymore, it’s just that it continues to happen.
Compromising on the Small Things
Marriage is full of compromises but sometimes they add up. Maybe you stop watching your favorite shows because they don’t like them or paint the house their way instead of yours. Not that these things are massive sacrifices, but after a while, you start to miss those bits of yourself that you loved.
Sharing a Bathroom is Chaos
Let me just say that sharing a bathroom is a nightmare for me. I get frustrated by toothpaste in the sink, wet towels on the floor & old magazines everywhere. Sometimes, I just need the space to do my skincare & not have to walk over a shaving kit or wonder why the soap is not in the soap box.
Feeling Like You’re Always Checked On
Marriage makes you on a team, which is fine — until it’s not. Sometimes, it’s just in my nature to want to book things or spend money without checking in with my partner first. It’s not that I don’t want to include my partner — it’s just that constant accountability feels a bit suffocating, even when it comes from a good place.
