If you want a happy life, say goodbye to these 11 self-destructive behaviors

We all have a few habits that aren’t doing us any favors, but the good news is that you can kick these habits to the curb and really change your life for the better.

Holding onto Grudges

Sticking to grudges is one of the worst things you can do. Letting go doesn’t mean the other person was right or forgetting their actions. It means you’re choosing to travel light.

When you forgive, you’re giving yourself the gift of peace and dropping that heavy load can really brighten your days.

Overcommitting Yourself

Being a “yes” person might make you feel like you’re on top of the world at first but it’s a fast-track ticket to Stressville. Learning to say no isn’t selfish.

Rather, you’re being smart with your time & energy by prioritizing things that really matter to you. You’ll soon be feeling a lot less worried.

Procrastinating Important Tasks

Procrastinating is the art of creating stress for yourself. Even though it feels good to avoid tasks at the moment, it just piles up the anxiety for later.

You should start by tackling the big tasks bit by bit because the panic attacks will come around less often and you’ll feel like a winner when you cross those big goals off your list.

Neglecting Self-Care

There’s never a good enough excuse for skipping out on your self-care. Whether it’s staying active or simply relaxing with a good book, self-care keeps you running.

Think of it like putting gas in your car. You wouldn’t expect to go far on empty, so why are you doing the same for yourself?

Engaging in Negative Self-Talk

If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself because beating yourself up with negative thoughts is a definite way to feel lousy.

Instead, try cheering yourself on, then watch how your self-esteem starts to soar. Just changing the tune of your thoughts can change the feel of your entire day.

Avoiding Financial Responsibility

Ignoring your finances doesn’t make them go away; it just gives you something else to worry about. To get a handle on your money, try setting up a budget or saving plan.

It can actually be quite empowering. Better yet, you’ll sleep a lot better since you won’t have to stress about every penny.

Excessive Worrying

Worrying about stuff you can’t control is never going to work and worst of all, it’s exhausting. You should focus on what you can control (like your reaction to things) and work out the best way to respond to these things when they happen.

Soon enough, you’ll find that you’re feeling a lot more peaceful.

Living in the Past

While it’s okay to reflect on the past, spending too much time there can keep you from enjoying the present. After all, it’s hard to move forward if you’re always looking back.

Try setting some exciting goals for the future and start working towards them. Why? Because then you’ll keep your eyes on the prize.

Eating Poorly

You are what you eat and eating junk can make you feel like….well, junk. Fueling up with good, nutritious food can improve your mood & energy levels like nothing else.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should be dieting all the time. Rather, you should be feeding your body what it needs to feel good.

Lacking Sleep

Skimping on sleep messes with everything in your life from your mood to your ability to think straight. After all, your body deserves to have some downtime to keep you feeling your best.

Aim for around eight hours each night. To get you in the mood, make sure you switch off any screens before bed.

Isolating Yourself Socially

It’s easy to feel down when you’re all alone. That’s why keeping in touch with friends & family is so important; they’ll give you the support you need through life’s ups and downs.

Reach out and make plans to keep your social life active. Soon enough, you’ll feel far more connected to the world around you.
