10 Ancient Predictions That Came True in Weird Ways

In the past, many ancient people made lots of predictions about our world today. And while some of them were completely off-base, you’d be surprised to see how some of them were actually true. Here are ten ancient predictions that came true in weird ways. However, these aren’t just vague guesses that could mean anything—rather, it’s the forecasts that were strangely accurate!

Nostradamus and the Great Fire of London

Nostradamus is probably the most famous fortune-teller around and he called the Great Fire of London in 1666. He did so a century before it happened! Nostradamus spoke about a “great fire” in London in his quatrains and sure enough, the city went up in flames. Did he have a crystal ball or something?!

The French Revolution

Nostradamus makes the list again with his prediction of the French Revolution. He talked about the lower classes rising up against the nobility and that’s exactly what happened in 1789. The revolution changed France & the world. Clearly, Nostradamus wasn’t just making wild guesses. He somehow knew what was coming.

The Discovery of the New World

Way back in the first century AD, Roman philosopher Seneca spoke about how people would find new lands across the Atlantic Ocean. Imagine that! Over a thousand years before Columbus & his crew even thought about sailing the ocean blue, Seneca already believed in the Americas. Just how did he do that?

The Atomic Bomb

The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian scripture and in one part, the god Krishna describes a weapon that could wipe out whole worlds. Honestly, it sounds a lot like he’s talking about an atomic bomb. This was thousands of years before anyone even made such a thing. It’s truly quite scary how accurate this ancient text was about the kind of power humans could unleash.

The Fall of Babylon

Long before it actually happened, the prophets Isaiah & Jeremiah predicted the city of Babylon’s downfall. Isaiah lived in the 8th century BCE and claimed that the Medes would take Babylon down. Then slightly later, Jeremiah shared the same prediction. Sure enough, in 539 BCE, Cyrus the Great marched in and completely destroyed Babylon, proving the predictions true.

The Reign of Cyrus

Speaking of Isaiah, he also names Cyrus the Great as the person who would get Jerusalem & its temple back on their feet. But what makes this prediction so creepy is that he called out Cyrus by name before he was even born. Cyrus’s repatriation policy & his edict for the Jewish exiles are all in the historical record. It’s just like Isaiah said they’d be.

The Destruction of Tyre

Ezekiel was another ancient prophet who had it on good authority that Tyre would be destroyed. He claimed Nebuchadnezzar would wreck it. While he gave it his best shot for 13 years, it was Alexander the Great who finally did the job with a massive causeway in 332 BCE. Tyre got knocked down & rebuilt numerous times and even though it wasn’t Nebuchadnezzar, Ezekiel’s prediction was still halfway true.

The Defeat of Croesus

Croesus was a very rich king of Lydia. He decided to speak with the Oracle of Delphi before picking a fight with Persia & the Oracle gave him an ambiguous riddle about Croesus destroying a great empire if he goes to war. Naturally, he took this as a green light. But there was a twist—it was his own empire that was destroyed!

The Siege of Jerusalem

The Book of Daniel also prophesied that Babylonians would besiege Jerusalem. It included several details & timelines that ended up being spookily accurate, such as Jerusalem being utterly destroyed and left desolate. Both of those actually happened! Really, it’s rather strange how they managed to see the future in this way.

The Fall of the Achaemenid Persian Empire

Similarly, the Book of Daniel also includes a vision of a ram and a goat fighting it out. They symbolized Persia & Alexander the Great & Daniel essentially claimed that Alexander would steamroll Persia by breaking its “two horns.” And wouldn’t you know it—Alexander did just that. In 331 BCE, he sealed the deal at the Battle of Gaugamela.
