12 things many of us pretend to love

There are things people pretend to love because it’s easier than being real. Part of it’s just being polite. Part of it’s not wanting to seem boring or ungrateful. But honestly, a lot of the stuff we pretend to love is just uncool, tiring, or not fun at all. We nod, smile, and do it anyway, secretly wishing we were anywhere else.

These are 12 things most people pretend to love but would skip if they could.

They lure you in with warm lighting and calming music. The first few scents are nice, then it turns into a blur of vanilla, lavender, and headache. You leave holding a candle you’re not even sure you like anymore.

It seems thoughtful on the surface. Still, walking into a room of people yelling while you’re in your worst outfit and totally unprepared isn’t everyone’s dream. It takes a minute to even figure out what’s going on.

Most people smile and play along, but deep down, they’d rather skip them. It feels unnatural to answer weird prompts in front of a crowd of coworkers you have no real relationship with.

The plating is elegant. The flavors are complex. Still, it feels more like a tasting than a meal. No one wants to admit they’re still hungry after spending that much.

It sounds exciting until you’re seated right in front of the spotlight. There’s nowhere to hide, and you can’t relax for a second. Even blinking too much feels like a distraction.

They look good on a schedule. In reality, they often drag on with long-winded questions and even longer answers. Most people check out mentally while nodding politely.

The idea is cute in theory. But the attention, the clapping, the off-key singing? It’s a lot to endure while you’re just trying to finish your meal without becoming a spectacle.

Peaceful music and deep breaths sound like a good start to the day. Still, dragging yourself out of bed to stretch in a room full of overachievers isn’t always as blissful as people claim.

They’re always hyped up as a perk. Once you’re there, though, it’s usually a cold waffle, watery juice, and eggs that have been sitting out too long. You smile through it because it’s “included,” but it’s rarely satisfying.

They think it’ll be a cultural experience when they sign up. But halfway through chopping herbs and stirring sauces in a sweltering kitchen, all they want to do is be by the pool.

When they hand you a paper cup of tropical juice (or some hibiscus-infused water) at check-in, everyone pretends it’s fancy. But most people just want to reach their room as soon as possible.

They tell you it’s a nice introduction, but it’s really a sales pitch in disguise. You’re wandering around in slippers while someone explains treatments you’re not planning to book.
