10 things mature women wear that men hate seeing

Fashion is subjective, but we asked men which styles they don’t like to see mature women wearing, and these 10 kept popping up.

Chunky platform shoes

Chunky platform sneakers and oversized soles are back in style, but aren’t loved by everyone. Men often find very bulky shoes to be heavy or clumsy-looking, particularly when paired with an otherwise sleek outfit.

Oversized shoes can also visually alter the proportions of an outfit and send attention directly to the feet. Slimmer sneakers, loafers, boots or low heels can provide a more classic appearance while still offering comfort.

Extremely oversized clothing

Baggy shirts, dresses, and pants might be comfortable, but they can also swallow you up. When your top, bottom, and middle are all billowy, your entire outfit loses definition and can make even high-end garments look sloppy.

Most men prefer clothes that have at least a bit of structure, so they appear more polished. That doesn’t necessarily mean skin-tight clothing, either. Having a defined waist, fitted shoulders, or an overall better silhouette will help.

Too many statement accessories at once

Accessories are a great way to take your ensemble to the next level. However, many bold accessories worn at once can start fighting for attention. Large hoop earrings, a few necklaces worn at once, giant sunglasses, an oversized belt, and a colorful purse can be overwhelming.

Many men say that they like it when a woman wears one or two eye-catching accessories as the center of attention. Doing this allows each piece to shine rather than getting lost in the grouping.

Head-to-toe animal print

Taking leopard, zebra, and snakeskin prints to their fullest extent and wearing them head-to-toe can be controversial for some. Wearing an entire outfit composed of an animal print can be very distracting for some men. They feel that the print steals the attention from the woman wearing it.

Try a scarf, blouse, handbag or shoes to add some flair to your outfit without taking over. Many feel that animal print is best when combined with solid colors.

Leggings as pants

Leggings are comfortable and great for working out or relaxing, so it’s popular with women. What some men hate is when they become the go-to option for pretty much every situation, whether shopping or going out to dinner.

Depending on the material and cut, leggings can wash out an otherwise well-put-together look by making it very sloppy. Straight-leg pants or jeans or relaxed fitted trousers can provide comfort but add shape to your outfit.

Clothes covered in large logos

Just because something is a high-end brand doesn’t mean it looks classy, especially when the name of the brand is plastered all over it. Big logos on shirts, purses, and coats may look tacky to someone who values a more subtle look.

Most men claim to care more about how a piece of clothing fits, feels, and looks than what logo is stitched across the fabric. Brand names can be hinted at with a small logo or special accessory.

Overly distressed jeans

Jeans with ripped bits have been around for years, and a couple of small tears can add an undone youthful vibe to your denim. But jeans with giant holes and dangling threads that show more skin than denim aren’t for everyone.

Some guys feel like massively shredded jeans are more sloppy than casually cool, especially at higher-end restaurants or when out with friends. Classic-fitting jeans or denim with only a little bit of distressing can be far simpler to wear and will never go out of style.

Matching tracksuits for every outing

Matching sweats and tracksuits are super comfy and have become way more acceptable as casual wear. However, some guys aren’t fans of athletic wear being worn for every occasion. What works for running errands might look too lazy for dinner, a party or a night out.

Casual clothing can stay comfortable as you age, but trading a tracksuit for lounge pants, a basic dress, or chic jeans can elevate your outfit in seconds.

Neon colors and juvenile graphic tees

Bright colors can inject energy into your wardrobe, but neon from head-to-toe can be overkill and difficult to pull off. T-shirts plastered with cartoon characters, childish slogans, or novelty graphics can ruin an otherwise stylish outfit by making it look childish.

Many men prefer mature women who wear richer colors or more subtle tones and graphic shirts that appear more intentional as opposed to whimsical for no reason.

You don’t have to sacrifice all bright colors or silly T-shirts. A neon accessory, subtle print, or vintage graphic shirt can help you express yourself without looking like you still wear youth sizes.

Extremely complicated statement sleeves

Puff sleeves, big shoulders and excess ruffles all have the potential to give an outfit some flair. However, taken to extremes, these details can easily overpower the rest of your look. Oversized sleeves can be off-putting to some men, particularly when you pair them with other loud details like prints, jewellery or funky necklines.

Bold sleeves can also distort your proportions by adding a lot of bulk to your top half. In most cases, if you keep the rest of your outfit simple, an interesting sleeve will look flattering rather than excessive.
