Instantly ruins attraction: 15 reasons a man will never chase a woman

Sparks of attraction are fragile at first, and there are certain behaviors that make a man back off prematurely before attraction develops into something more.

Constant tests

Putting a man through emotional trials and tribulations, mind games, and trick questions to test his trust will wear his patience thin. Real relationships require communication and trust, instead of silent tests that he’s trying desperately to understand.

If he feels like he can’t have a harmless conversation without his partner trying to catch him making a mistake, he’ll just stop trying.

Zero initiation

If a woman never reaches out, never suggests a place to go on a date or even sends a text to say hi, it screams “I’m not interested” louder than words can say. Men often love to chase and pursue a woman, but when it becomes one-sided, it feels desperate or like complete disregard.

He’ll do some chasing, but if he feels like he’s putting in all of the effort, then he’ll save face and leave to find someone who will reciprocate.

Ex talk

Constantly talking about an ex-boyfriend, whether it’s how much she misses him or how much she hates him, is a huge red flag. It indicates to a man that she’s still wholly invested emotionally in her previous relationship and that there isn’t space for him.

No one wants to feel like they’re competing with someone who isn’t even here or like they’re just a rebound from heartbreak.

Endless drama

Whining about every little annoyance as if it were a crisis or breaking news will make him run for the hills. Guys naturally seek out women who provide calm, laughter, and a break from the stress of life.

If he knows within the first few dates that a woman spends her free time on high-intensity gossip, workplace feuds, and having emotional breakdowns, he’ll want nothing to do with that.

Entitled energy

Behaving badly towards service staff, asking for expensive gifts or behaving as if the world owes her because she’s beautiful shows that she has no class.

Confidence is sexy, but entitlement and arrogance show extreme selfishness and a lack of decency that no physical beauty can cover up. A man pursuing a real relationship will see right through the glamour and know that being with her would be draining and one-sided.

Smothering quickly

Smothering him, expecting him to text you 24/7, or trying to make plans for the future after two dates can be very suffocating to a man. If she’s pushing so much deep intensity before trust has been established naturally, he will feel a strong need to get away from that pressure.

She has to allow him some space to chase her. If she smothers that initial interaction, there will be no room for attraction, mystery or intrigue.

Hot cold

Acting hot and cold (professing your undying love one moment and completely shutting him out the next) is a guaranteed way to extinguish his attraction.

Some women believe this makes a man pursue harder, but really intelligent men will see this behavior as emotional irresponsibility or childish attention-seeking.

Extreme jealousy

Questioning him about his female colleagues, becoming angry when he hangs out with his friends he grew up with, or scrolling through his Instagram likes all reek of extreme insecurity.

Genuine interest comes with trust and allowing each other to have their own lives. If he feels like she’s policing him and examining his every move, he will feel trapped in the relationship.

No ambition

When a woman has no interests, career or hobbies outside of a relationship, then dating can feel very cumbersome. Smart men are attracted to women who have an active life outside of their relationship. They want a girl with dreams of her own and a motivating drive that will inspire them to upgrade.

Overly competitive

It’s so draining when every simple argument, trivia contest, or weekend activity becomes a violent competition to prove who’s better. There’s a huge difference between playful teasing and having an ulterior motive to always cut a man down or be right to make herself feel better.

When dating becomes less of a team effort and more of a war zone, the attraction fizzles fast.

Financial recklessness

Carrying significant debt, boasting about awful spending choices, or assuming a man will pay for an extravagant lifestyle that he can’t support is a red flag.

Money isn’t the most important thing, but being financially responsible indicates that someone is level-headed and able to help create a future full of stability and security with her as equals.

Negativity bias

Constant negativity about everything from your friends, job, the weather, even restaurant food exudes a black cloud of energy that sucks the life out of the room. Positivity and a good sense of humor are incredibly attractive traits that cause others to want to be around a woman all day.

If every discussion drains him emotionally, weighs him down, and leaves him spent from having to counteract all of the negativity, he will soon connect her presence with complete misery.

Passive aggression

Using silent treatments, dramatic sighing, and door slamming instead of telling someone plainly that you’re upset about something is a colossal failure to communicate.

Men are horrifically bad at picking up on mixed messages, and making them guess how they disappointed her causes undue stress. Mature men appreciate a woman who can express herself plainly, quietly, and respectfully instead of pettily punishing them emotionally.

Gossip obsession

Wasting time gossiping about other women, dissecting your friends’ private lives, or trolling social media shows a lack of character.

It makes a man question what you’re saying about him to his friends when he’s not around. Classy women enjoy talking about big ideas, funny stories and creative passions, not others’ faults.

Playing dumb

Intentionally playing dumb, pretending not to know things, or acting weak just so a man can feel smart and masculine is an antiquated tactic that will backfire. Smart men today are attracted to a great brain, a clever retort, and a woman who can stand equal in an intellectual discussion with them.
