A professional eater tried a $200 plate of fries loaded with truffles, Champagne, goose fat and gold—and his reaction was surprisingly enthusiastic.
The Fries Cost $200
Serendipity3’s Crème de la Crème Pomme Frites holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive French fries. The dish was priced at $200 and was created as an extravagantly upgraded version of an ordinary side dish.
Almost Everything About Them Is Excessive
The potatoes are blanched in Dom Pérignon Champagne and vinegar, then cooked three times in goose fat. They’re topped with black truffles, specialty cheeses, truffle butter and 23-karat edible gold, with a rich Mornay sauce for dipping.
Then L.A. Beast Took a Bite
Professional competitive eater Kevin “L.A. Beast” Strahle didn’t give the polite “that’s interesting” reaction. After tasting them, he described earthy flavors reminiscent of grass and hay—and immediately followed that with, “it’s amazing.”
He Said They Were Extremely Rich
Strahle repeatedly described the fries as rich and intensely truffley. He also praised the Mornay sauce and, naturally, ate the entire plate in under three minutes.
So, Were They Actually Worth $200?
His answer was essentially yes—at least as a food experience. After finishing the plate, Strahle called them “the best” fries and gave Serendipity3 a five-star recommendation. But that’s not the same as saying the taste alone justifies $200.
The Gold Wasn’t the Point
Even the restaurant’s own ingredients explain why the price is about spectacle as much as flavor. A $200 fry doesn’t need to taste 50 times better than a $4 fry. The appeal is getting something ordinary transformed into an absurd, record-breaking experience—and L.A. Beast clearly enjoyed the experiment.
