15 hilarious pickup lines that will at least get you a laugh

They won’t necessarily earn you a date or a lifelong love interest, but cheesy pickup lines will almost always get you some sort of reaction, a real smile, a teasing giggle, or, if you’re lucky, an eye roll.

Magic

“Are you a magician? Because whenever you’re around, everyone else disappears.”

That old pickup line works on the implication that you can’t see past this person when you’re in a crowd of people. It’s corny, but technically true, and makes for an old-school compliment that you have someone’s complete attention.

Lost

“Do you have a map? I keep getting lost in your eyes.”

Crossing over from cheesy romance, this pick plays hard into the cliché of being mesmerized by someone’s eyes. It’s so overly used that saying it seriously will surely earn you an instant eye roll, making this ideal to break the ice.

Eiffel

“Are you French? Because Eiffel for you.”

It’s a clean, honest dad joke disguised as a romantic gesture. Foregoing any attempt at suave, it leans hard on a horribly phonetic pun on “Eiffel” just to go for the giggle and show you don’t care if you look silly saying hello.

Walking again

“Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?”

This pick works because it’s clever and cheeky. Not only does it prime you for a bombastic theatrical punchline, but it also makes a cliché “high stakes” line into something silly and quotable, and instantly gives you a reason to dramatically turn around and walk back in super slow motion if they smile or laugh.

Keyboard

“Are you a keyboard? Because you’re just my type.”

Popular with writers, programmers, and geeks of all kinds, this short and sweet pick-up line uses a smart typographic pun. The double entendre of using “type” as both a word processor and the sort of person you like is very succinct, direct, and interesting.

Cute-cumber

“If you were a vegetable, you’d be a cute-cumber.”

It’s hard to deliver this one seriously, and that’s part of what makes it so endearing to others. The pun is extremely corny, and most people cringe when you say it, but at least you aren’t afraid to let your nerd flag fly. Sometimes the cheesiness of the line is what makes it the funniest part of all.

Ticket

“Are you a parking ticket? Because you’ve got ‘fine’ written all over you.”

This changes a universally loathed real-life distraction, a parking ticket, into a joke about aesthetics. This is a straightforward wordplay that serves up a blunt compliment.

Chemistry

“Are you made of copper and tellurium? Because you’re Cu-Te.”

Science lovers will love this one in particular, though even people who aren’t too acquainted with the periodic table will likely find it chuckle-worthy after you explain it. The pun is pretty slick and is a nice twist on other typical pickup lines. It’s perfect if you want to be slightly/original.

Wi-Fi

“Do you have Wi-Fi? Because I’m really feeling a connection.”

We can all relate to this joke nowadays, which is what makes it work. It’s current, it’s playful, and it pokes fun at something we’ve all done daily. It also works as a nice and playful opener that doesn’t come off as rehearsed.

Google

“Is your name Google? Because you have everything I’ve been searching for.”

To call someone the biggest search engine in the world is a humorous way of saying they fit every box on your checklist. It’s meant to be a ridiculously over-the-top compliment about how they make you feel by comparing them to something you use every day.

Band-aid

“Do you have a Band-Aid? I just scraped my knee falling for you.”

It’s hyperbolic in the best way possible. The visuals you use are ridiculously dramatic, which lets us know that you’re kidding around. It keeps it from getting too heavy or serious.

Camera

“You must be a camera, because every time I look at you, I smile.”

This one just feels honest. There’s a sugary logic to it that translates to compliments delivered straight to the heart rather than a cheap trick. You link someone’s physical vision to an immediate, reflexive jolt of joy. It’s nice and very disarmingly wholesome.

Interest

“Are you a loan? Because you’ve got my interest.”

Casual enough for the office or happy hour, this pick drips with dry financial jargon. Instead of leaving rates up to chance, you decide what your risk is by turning an otherwise dull economic principle into a funny double entendre.

Jaw

“Excuse me, but I think you dropped something… my jaw.”

This line relies mainly on visual gags and a big delivery to land. You lure them into thinking someone dropped something of theirs on the ground, causing them to look down. Once they look back up, you hit them with an overly dramatic line.

Time

“If beauty were time, you’d be an eternity.”

This statement is very flowery and melodramatic. Comparing someone’s looks to eternity is such a huge hyperbole. It’s silly and unrealistic; it’s just a game you play to exaggerate how awesome someone is.
