Different factors influence happiness around the country, but residents in these cities rated the happiest overall on a recent survey.
Mississauga

Scoring an impressive 70.3 (from 100) overall, Mississauga took the top spot as the happiest city in our study. Located west of Toronto, the city has ample employment opportunities, high-quality public services, and a diverse population.
Residents love that they can tap into all of the economic benefits of living in the Greater Toronto Area while also enjoying low-key neighborhoods, plenty of parks, and a real sense of community.
Montreal

Coming in at number two on our list is Montreal with a happiness score of 69.4. Montrealers get the best of both worlds: North American amenities with a European flair.
Many locals enjoy world-renowned restaurants, festivals and embrace the arts and culture the city has to offer. Residents also love Montreal’s walkability, bustling street life, and unique sense of place.
Hamilton

Hamilton was assigned a happiness score of 67.5, continuing their climb as one of Ontario’s best cities to live in.
Hamilton was known for years as a factory town, but today it’s an up-and-coming city filled with art, hip restaurants and revitalized neighborhoods. Hamilton also happens to be close to many waterfalls, hiking trails and conservation areas.
Calgary

Calgary scored 67.4 in the happiness index. Calgary offers its citizens relatively high incomes, great economic growth, and proximity to some of the best outdoor scenery Canada has to offer.
Calgarians have wonderful skiing, hiking trails, and mountain getaway areas just a short drive from the city. All of this, along with modern conveniences and plentiful activities, keeps people flocking to Calgary for career and lifestyle opportunities.
Brampton

Brampton (with a score of 66.7) is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada and home to many multicultural communities.
It also ranked high for family-friendly communities with many parks, sports centres and community programs. Some locals love how they can feel at home while being immersed in one of the city’s many cultures.
Ottawa

The nation’s capital ranked high with a happiness score of 66.4. The city always ranks high for quality of life in Canada.
Ottawa has a stable economy, educated citizens and is full of parks. Those who live in Ottawa have access to museums, festivals, scenic bike trails and the beautiful Rideau Canal. Many residents enjoy the job stability the city provides, along with its many activities.
Edmonton

Edmonton had a happiness score of 66.3. Residents love their city because it is affordable and has great community pride.
Many people are impressed by the sprawling river valley that runs through Edmonton. It has one of the largest urban park systems in North America. Edmonton also has a booming art scene and festivals.
Vancouver

Vancouver received a happiness score of 66.3. The city is well known for its high cost of living, but residents enjoy mild weather, gorgeous views, and easy access to beaches, mountains and forests. Outdoor living may help take people’s minds off the financial burdens of living in the city.
Winnipeg

Winnipeg earned a happiness score of 65.9. Although it may not be talked about as much as other Canadian cities, residents enjoy low costs of living, friendly people and a sense of community. Winnipeg also offers an impressive selection of art and culture with several museums, festivals and performing arts centers.
Toronto

Home to Canada’s biggest city, Toronto (with a score of 65.8) presents residents with amazing opportunities for business, education, entertainment, and culture.
Residents in Toronto have access to world-class restaurants, professional sports teams, diverse neighborhoods and job opportunities. Housing can be quite expensive, but many Toronto residents say the city has plenty of opportunities for those who want it.
