13 reasons Canada is becoming the world’s new favorite place to live

People from around the world are flocking to Canada because of its rare combination of safety, employment opportunities, and room to spread out.

One great strength of Canada is that immigrants know what they are working towards. Other countries have immigration policies that change regularly or never give you certainty that you will be able to stay long-term. In Canada, you can eventually get permanent residency and citizenship. You can plan for your future instead of feeling like you have to live your life in fear.

Safety

Safety is one of Canada’s strengths, and why so many people from other countries choose to immigrate there. Although there is crime in Canada, it is typically ranked as one of the safest countries in the world, and many neighborhoods have low crime rates.

Parents often feel safe letting their kids play outside, walk to school or elsewhere by themselves. Canada also has reliable emergency services, police, and a dependable legal system that most citizens trust.

Stable banking

Canada has a safe banking system because it’s highly regulated and dominated by large conservative banks, instead of thousands of risky ones.

Big banks hold huge amounts of capital with strict federal oversight, so they’re buffered from international financial crises and help ensure depositors’ funds don’t disappear.

Trusted water

Access to clean drinking water is something that Canadians take for granted. In most areas of Canada, residents can drink water straight from their taps without hesitation.

They don’t need to depend on bottled water to meet their daily needs. For new Canadians who come from areas with questionable water quality, this one thing can make life feel better.

Consumer rights

Canada has strong consumer protection laws and agencies, which allow us to generally trust that when we buy something or sign a contract, we aren’t being tricked. Whether dealing with a bank, phone company, retailer or just some random salesperson, there are laws to protect you from being misled or deceived. Consumers can trust that there is more transparency in their daily transactions.

Social progression

Canada has always been at the forefront of the human rights movement. Canada was one of the first countries to legalize same-sex marriage. Canada continues to have robust protections from discrimination and fights for progressive social policies.

Clean air

Canadians have some of the cleanest air that many people around the world can only dream of. Pollution levels outside of cities can be extremely low, which allows you to enjoy the outdoors even more. One comment many new immigrants make is how fresh the air is and how easy it is to be outdoors.

Natural access

In some countries, you may have to travel far and spend lots of money to get to beautiful natural places. Lakes, forests, trails, and parks are minutes away from most neighbourhoods in Canada. Whether you love hiking, kayaking, fishing or just taking a quiet stroll, nature is much closer than you think.

Worker demand

There are employment opportunities across numerous sectors. This includes everything from nursing and engineering to skilled trades and information technology. Many immigrants come to Canada with in-demand skills. This means there are great job opportunities for secure employment and upward mobility. It also allows newcomers to settle into life in Canada faster.

Personal space

Canada is massive, but it doesn’t have a huge population. Life in Canada can feel more relaxed because you don’t often find huge crowds.

Lines at stores or transit, congested neighbourhoods, and packed restaurants are less hectic. More room for you can also mean quieter communities and more space at home.

Dark night skies are one of Canada’s hidden benefits. Much of Canada hasn’t been plagued by light pollution yet, which means Canadians can enjoy beautiful views of the stars. Some Canadians even get to see the northern lights, something travellers wait years to see.

Political stability

While volatility and unpredictability have become the norm in many countries around the world, Canada is recognized globally for having a stable and predictable democracy.

We hold frequent, peaceful elections and transitions of power occur smoothly. Our institutions, from government to courts to public services, are designed to work for Canadians, no matter which political party is in power.

Cultural diversity

Canada prides itself on its cultural diversity. People come from almost every country in the world. You can find neighbourhoods, restaurants, festivals, and events representing many cultures in Canada’s cities.

While immigrants and refugees may learn new languages and become Canadian citizens, they don’t usually have to give up their own cultures the way they might in other countries.
