10 home gadgets that made my life simpler in my 60s

Here are 10 home gadgets and tools I have accumulated over the years that make mundane work easier in my 60s.

Electric Jar Opener

You know those tight-fitting jar lids you can barely open? This gadget does them for you. You just place it over, press a button, and watch it open the lid and pull the lid off effortlessly.

No more wrestling with a towel or begging for help. It’s a lifesaver, especially if your hands aren’t as strong as they used to be.

Robot Vacuum

Sweeping or vacuuming? Forget it. This little guy bounces around your floor and picks up dust, crumbs and dog hair while you relax.

You can tell it to start running while you’re out or just let it do its thing while you’re reading. It even knows when to go back to its charger. A few models mop and even go up stairs too, which is great.

Key Finder

I misplace my keys often. With a key finder, you just have to grab your phone, click the app and your keys will buzz until you locate them.

You can also attach it to your wallet, TV remote, or any other item that you just always seem to find. It’s saves so much time (and frustration).

Electric Kettle with Temperature Control

This isn’t just any kettle. You can adjust the temperature to your desired level, which is perfect for tea drinkers like me.

Green tea? Set it to 175°F. Want an instant soup hot cup? Hit 212°F. It is super quick to heat up, automatically shuts off, and retains heat if you aren’t ready to pour.

Voice-Controlled Smart Speaker

With Alexa or Google Home, you can ask for the weather, play music, set reminders, or simply shut down the lights without getting up.

It’s futuristic but super simple to use, even for those who are not technically inclined.

This is where I relax after a hard day. It reclines just right for reading or TV watching, and the built-in massager is a relief for tight backs and legs.

Some even have heating settings, which are heaven in the winter. It’s my favorite spot in the house.

Smart Pill Organizer

It can be hard to keep track of medicines, but with this little gadget it is possible.

It has pockets for each day, and buzzes or flashes so you know to take your pills. Some sync up with your phone, so even if you’re out, you don’t miss a dose.

Motion-Activated Night Lights

Going to the bathroom at night used to be risky, but not anymore. These lights come on as soon as you get out of bed, so you don’t have to turn the switch.

I have placed them in the hallway, near the stairs and in the bathroom. This is a quick fix that can do a world of difference.

Digital Food Scale with Nutrition Information

Watching what you eat? This scale is a must-have. It doesn’t only weigh food, but also tells you calories, carbs, and so forth.

Need to calculate a perfect serving of pasta, or how much sugar is in that apple? This scale gives you the numbers so you eat smart.

Electric Adjustable Bed Frame

This is one of those once-a-lifetime purchases. You can lift the head to sit up and read or raise the legs for circulation.

It’s also incredible if you suffer from snoring, acid reflux or back pain. Just throw in a nice mattress and you have the makings of an easy night’s sleep.
