There are some activities we used to jump at without thinking twice—things that felt exciting, adventurous, or just plain fun. But somewhere along the way, they stopped feeling like a treat and started feeling like work.
We even asked around, and it turns out a lot of people agree; what once was “let’s go!” is now “maybe next time.” So here are 10 activities most people used to find fun, but now, they just feel exhausting.

Marathon shopping trips

They used to be able to go to every store in the mall and still make it back for dinner. Now, they just feel too tired by the second shop, looking around for a bench to sit on, and wondering why they didn’t just shop online.
Escape rooms

Escape rooms start as a good time, laughing and working together as a team to figure things out. But after half an hour of spinning locks and reading fake clues, one’s brain craves a coffee nap more than “solving the mystery.”
Group camping trips

There’s nothing more romantic than sleeping under the stars. Until they’re the one pitching the tent at 9 p.m. on the dot, the one trying to fix the stove in the dark, the one who forgot half the cooking utensils.
Karaoke nights

It’s fun to go to karaoke and cheer on friends for a couple of songs. It’s another thing to have to sing an entire set. After the fourth song in which one’s voice dies, they’re secretly devising an escape plan. And if someone hands them the mic, they immediately “lose their voice.”
Big potluck gatherings

This was the time many people met up with a bunch of friends and family to share a meal and some laughs. Now, it’s weeks of “What are you bringing?” group chats, the stress of transportation and storage, and looking for fridge space for the 18 casseroles that are going to show up.
Going to every wedding-related event

Bachelorette party, bridal shower, engagement dinner: there used to be a reason weddings were called the “season.” Now all the travel, coordinating outfits, and constant scheduling are more like a second job.
Trivia nights

Sounds like a blast, right? Fun activities and the chance to show off random knowledge. This is until the trivia answers seem like they’re out of a TV show for Einsteins. By the end, everyone is just downing their drink and hoping for a topic they know.
City walking tours

A city tour sounds great until one’s actually out in nature with the sun beating down on them. It’s a three-hour tour of cobbled streets with little to no shade, and a guide who won’t shut up about “architectural details.”
Themed costume parties

Costumes are great, and everyone loves themed parties. But after they’ve spent hours (and a ridiculous amount of money) making the perfect costume, one might realize it’s itchy, super uncomfortable, and doesn’t let them sit down.
Massive family reunions

People go to reunions expecting hugs, nostalgia, and catching up on each other’s lives. Instead, it’s you repeating the same “So, what are you up to these days?” on loop while pretending you remember people who last saw you before you could walk.
