Some families fight about politics. Others go to war over food. And research shows (see the end) that arguments about food are some of the biggest debates. Sometimes it’s taste. Sometimes it’s identity & tradition. Either way, here are ten food opinions that divide many families. What’s the one food hill your family would die on?

Cold pizza for breakfast is completely fine

There’s always that one person who wakes up & starts eating last night’s pizza. They’ll eat it without a plate or microwave. Just cold & straight from the box. Then, you have the other side that hates the very idea of it. Heated or cold? This debate never ends.
Peanut butter belongs in the fridge

Some people keep peanut butter in the fridge. Why? So the oil doesn’t separate. It’s logical in theory. But then it leaves you with a rock-solid brick you can’t even spread. That’s why other people prefer to leave it out. They’d rather deal with the stir. As such, this kind of debate usually ends with someone hiding their jar in the pantry, just in case.
Casseroles aren’t real meals

Someone’s walked into the kitchen at least once, seen a casserole, and asked if that’s really dinner. People’s opinions on this dish really vary. There are those who swear it’s a delicious comfort food. But others claim it’s a mix of leftovers. The debate’s even worse when someone makes a casserole for a holiday dish. Nobody wants to argue. But they still do.
Meatloaf should never have ketchup

One side is team brown gravy. The other believes ketchup is the best part of a proper meatloaf. Of course, there’s no middle ground since people grow up with one version. They’ll then marry into a family that does the opposite. Suddenly, every holiday dinner is tense. They both think the other version is absolutely disgusting.
Thanksgiving stuffing should be inside the bird

For some families, pulling stuffing out of the turkey is part of the tradition. It’s soft and they love it. But others won’t touch it unless it came out of a separate dish, preferably baked until the top goes crispy. They’ll argue about it near the oven. Either way, someone checks the center with a meat thermometer, just to make sure.
Mashed potatoes shouldn’t be completely smooth

It’s mashed potatoes. You’d think this wouldn’t be a thing. But one side wants the lumps left in because that’s how real mashed potatoes are. Then someone else would rather have them smooth. Someone’s going to remake their plate later with extra butter to recover. Nobody’s technically wrong, but still.
Eating cereal with warm milk

Warm milk in cereal isn’t even weird in some families. They grew up with it & think cold milk makes cereal taste bland. Yet there’ll be another member of the family who’s horrified to see steam coming off a bowl of Cornflakes. They immediately lose interest in breakfast. Then, they’ll eat toast to avoid the conversation entirely.
Fruit does not belong in savory dishes

To some people, putting mango in salsa or raisins in stuffing should be illegal. Others genuinely love it. They can’t get enough of the sweet & salty combo. One cousin always thinks grapes in chicken salad are the best part, while someone else starts picking them out mid-bite. The problem is that it always shows up at shared meals. Nobody warns you ahead of time.
Ice in milk is totally fine

Putting a few ice cubes into a glass of milk is enough to make someone else stop what they’re doing. The ‘cook’ will say it’s the only way they’ll drink milk. Yet everyone else looks uncomfortable. It’s not the temperature that’s the issue. It’s the texture. Watered-down milk is weird to a lot of people.
Boxed mac & cheese is better than homemade

The boxed version of mac & cheese somehow hits the spot for some people. They claim homemade versions are “too fancy” or “not cheesy enough.” However, the others are usually the ones doing the cooking. The box version annoys them because they claim it has no flavor or that it’s not real cheese. Neither side is backing down anytime soon.
