The 15 Worst-Selling Cars Right Now

Despite major advancements in automotive technology and design, some vehicles still struggle to capture consumers’ interest and wallets. This struggle can result from various factors, such as outdated designs, lackluster performance, or being outclassed by more competent competitors.

We’ve checked the current sales figures and compiled a list of the worst-selling cars on the market. You may be surprised to see some of your favorite brands on this list, but note that low sales numbers do not necessarily equate to a poor-quality vehicle.

Chevrolet Equinox EV is another electric vehicle that has failed to make a mark in the market. With only 1,013 units sold so far, it’s clear that consumers may not be impressed by the car. The limited availability of charging stations and starting price of over $40,000 could be some factors contributing to its poor sales. That said, don’t be shocked if its sales skyrocket throughout the year.

Anyone who has owned a Volvo knows they make quality vehicles. However, the S/V90 models have not been selling well this year. Their high starting price and lack of practicality in passenger and cargo space compared to other luxury wagons could be factors for having only around 800 units sold so far.

Lexus Rc

The Lexus RC is a luxury sports car that has struggled to find its place in the market. With around 900 units sold, it falls far behind competitors like the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5. Even if you could afford its high starting price of around $42,000, its lack of practicality and average fuel efficiency may not be worth the investment.

Toyota Mirai

The Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen-powered sedan, has struggled in the market this year. Its lack of infrastructure for refueling contributes to its low sales numbers. Even with discounts available, only about 245 units have been sold. However, with the growing demand for more eco-friendly vehicles, we may see an increase in sales as technology and infrastructure continue to improve.

Nissan Gt-R

The Nissan GT-R is a powerful sports car designed to compete with Porsche and Audi. While its performance is impressive, its lack of practicality may contribute to its low sales. Moreover, with the rise of electric vehicles and more eco-friendly options, traditional gas-powered cars like the GT-R may lose their appeal to some buyers. Only about 150 units have been sold so far this year.

Ineos Grenadier

One look at the Ineos Grenadier, and you’ll know it’s not your average car. Its rugged appearance and emphasis on off-roading capabilities may seem like a perfect fit for adventurous buyers. However, with only 900 units sold so far this year, it’s clear that it has failed to make an impact in the market.

Audi A8

Who wouldn’t want to own a luxurious Audi A8? Not many people this year. The luxury sedan has been on the decline in sales. Its high starting price and features compared to its competitors may be turning away potential buyers. With only around 800 units sold this year, Audi may have to make some changes to keep up with other popular luxury sedans.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The Volvo C40 Recharge is an all-electric compact crossover. Despite its sleek design and focus on sustainability, the C40 has struggled to gain traction in the market. One of the main reasons for this might be its high price tag. The C40 also faces tough competition from other popular electric vehicles and maybe that’s why it has only sold 1,015 units this year.

Lexus LC

Another luxury sports car from Lexus, the LC, is a luxury sports car designed to compete with Porsche and BMW. However, it has failed to significantly impact the market, selling only over 900 units. Its steep price of over $90,000 might be one reason for its poor sales. Additionally, consumers may find its low fuel efficiency and lack of practicality for daily use a drawback.

Audi A7

I am fond of a good hatchback, and the Audi A7 certainly fits the bill, but its sales figures suggest otherwise. Despite its unique design and luxurious features, the steep price tag may deter many potential buyers. With just around 700 units sold this year, the A7 may need to make some changes to compete with other popular hatchbacks.

Acura Zdx

The Acura ZDX is another luxury crossover that has struggled to make a mark in the market. Its polarizing exterior design may be one reason it hasn’t appealed to many buyers. Moreover, with only around 338 units bought this year, it’s clear that consumers may prefer other options from more established luxury brands.

BMW Z4

The BMW Z4 is a two-seater sports car that has seen a steep decline in sales this year. Despite its sleek design and impressive performance, consumers may not find it worth the starting price of over $50,000. Also, stiff competition from other more practical BMW models like the 3 Series and 5 Series could be another reason for its poor sales.

Fiat 500E

Electric cars have been gaining popularity, but the Fiat 500e has not seen much success. Its limited range of only 149 miles and high starting price compared to other electric vehicles may be turning away potential buyers. With only around 200 units finding new owners this year, it’s clear that some improvements need to be made for this model to be competitive in the market.

Genesis G90

How is the Genesis G90 even on this list? The luxury sedan offers top-of-the-line features and performance comparable to its competitors. Still, few flagship sedan buyers are willing to pick a Genesis G90 over a Mercedes-Benz or BMW, so we’re not surprised that it has only sold 697 units in 2024.

Hyundai Nexo

The Hyundai Nexo is another hydrogen-powered vehicle that has struggled to gain traction in the market. The limited availability of refueling stations and the lack of awareness about fuel cell technology could contribute to the low sales of 77 units this year. However, with continued advancements in alternative fuel vehicles, we may see a rise in the popularity of the Nexo in the future.
