The Worst Ranked Fast Food Chains in America

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) recently released its annual list, reporting customer ratings for fast food chains in America. This ranking system evaluates customer experience and satisfaction based on food quality, speed of service, and overall cleanliness.

As with all rankings, there are tops and bottoms. And though all fast-food chains’ scores are above 70, some chains rank bottom. Should you avoid these fast food chains because of their ranking? That decision is yours.

McDonald’s

The McDonald’s chain starts with the lowest score on the least. This fast food was rated 71 by customers, and though it doesn’t seem that bad compared to the other chains, this rating says that customers think there are better options than McDonald’s. What do you think?

Jack in the Box

Next on the list is Jack in the Box, with a rating of 72. Although this chain is known for its variety of menu items, customers do not seem to favor it as much as other fast food chains. The factors leading to this ranking were not made public, but if this chain wants to move up the list, addressing food quality, service speed, and cleanliness is a good place to start.

Popeyes

Its “Love that chicken from Popeyes” commercial may not reflect customers’ true sentiments towards the chain. With a rating of 72, Popeyes shares the same spot on this list as Jack in the Box. It doesn’t seem so bad until you realize that it dropped from its 2023 rating of 74. If you’re a fan of Popeyes, hopefully, they’ll make some improvements soon.

Taco Bell

Perhaps the biggest argument for Taco Bell is that it gained 2 points from its 2023 rating of 71 to get a rating of 73 in 2024. But these points were not enough to bring it out of the bottom list. The number of satisfied customers may have increased, but Taco Bell has a lot of work to do if it wants to compete with the top-ranked fast-food chains.

Subway

Who doesn’t love a good Subway sandwich? Ummm…those who contributed to its low ranking? What’s worse? It dropped points from its 2023 rating of 75 to cop the bottom 5th position with a 2024 rating of 74. Just 1 point difference, you may say, but in the world of customer satisfaction, that is a huge difference.

Dairy Queen

While Dairy Queen’s Blizzard and ice cream treats are iconic, they don’t equate to high customer satisfaction. With a rating of 74, Dairy Queen ties with Subway and is down 1 point from its 2023 rating of 75. Dairy Queen needs to look closer at its customer experience and make necessary improvements to avoid dropping more points.

Little Caesars

Little Caesars’ “Pizza! Pizza!” slogan might be catchy, but it only managed to gain one point from its 2023 rating. This chain sits at the 7th spot with a rating of 75. Its slogan might be perfect, but it clearly has a lot of work to do in other aspects of its services from the customers’ perspective.

Sonic

Sonic has improved its customer experience and satisfaction, which is evident in its rankings. It gained 4 points from its 2023 score of 72 to achieve the current score of 76. This improvement, however, was not enough to move it up from the bottom list. But who knows? If it replicates this gain in the coming year, it might be rubbing shoulders with the top rankers.

Wendy’s

Given its active social media presence, Wendy’s probably shouldn’t be on the list. However, social media humor doesn’t always lead to fast-food success. Customers determine what they consider a satisfactory experience, and with a rating of 76, they have placed Wendy’s in the 9th spot. But hey, at least it gained 2 points from its 2023 ranking.
